About

Hi,

my name is JC Sawatzky and I am Götterspeise Film. After graduating as a TV-Journalist from the "Bavarian Academy of Television" I started producing documentaries for German TV. In the last 10 years I worked for companies in Vienna, Munich, Berlin and Shanghai as well as a freelancer for companies from all over the world. During all these years I was able to work for some of Germany's biggest TV channels as well as for international NGOs. During one of my productions in Peru I fell in love with the country and especially with one of its citizen. Long story short, I moved to Peru and founded my own documentary production company in 2017. Here I produce documentaries directly for TV networks, as well as I offer my services as a fixer, producer and cameraman to production companies and NGOs worldwide.

But what does my company name Götterspeise Film actually mean? Well, there are two reasons:

  1. Götterspeise is the German Word for Jelly, but if you translate it literally it means “Food of the Gods“. These meaning always reminded me on one of the oldest stories in the world. Adam and Eve eating a forbidden fruit to become like God. By eating the fruit their view of the world changed forever. I feel that stories are exactly that. People crave for stories, for information, especially the forbidden ones. Consuming a good story, will give you knowledge that can change you forever. Story's truly are the food of the Gods.

  2. The second reason is a more personal one. As a child of a single mom, I grew up at my grandparents home. When my grandma got cancer it felt like my world was going to collapse. I therefore decided to accompany her at the hospital during the last week of her life. The sickness made it impossible for my grandma to eat solid food, so doctors would give her red jelly, Götterspeise, instead. She enjoyed it so much, it became the last meals of her life. I would look at that half emptied bowl next to her bed and remember that red jelly, was also one of the favorite desserts we would get back in Kindergarten. It's a meal that follows you from the very beginning of your life, to the very end. But why? Its because the consistency of Götterspeise makes it easy to consume for everybody but still has some bite to it. Its not overpowering but still has a strong flavor. When I realized that, i thought to myself, that's exactly what I want to do with my life. Doing something for young and old, easy to consume but still with bite and a strong flavor- for me that's telling a story, for me that's Götterspeise Film.
